Hi Erica! I do think it would leave a bit of residue. You can try replacing some of the flour with sifted cocoa powder. You shouldn’t need much! I’d make a small batch though, just enough for the cupcakes.

Wondering if you have a chocolate option, or how to make a chocolate cake release? I’m making some naked cupcakes and I’m just worried about some white residue from the release being seen on the cupcakes. Thanks!

Hi Susan! Thank you for the wonderful feedback. What a lovely tradition you have to share with your grandaughter!

From cakes and cupcakes, brownies, to casserole. I totally live this stuff. My granddaughter has been baking with me since she was 3 or 4, now 11. And she loves painting the baking dishes with the release. Everything comes out without crumbs or breaking up, and is a nice golden brown color. Plus the cleanup is a breeze. Actually need to make a new batch tomorrow.

Hi Margaret Ann! I just use it as extra insurance to make sure the cakes pop right out of their pans.
